Grocery Store Nutrition: GIANT Offers Courses on Accessing Food, Cooking and Budgeting | Food

Everyone could benefit from a new way of thinking about cooking.

From family meals and hunger pangs to launching a global culinary adventure, The GIANT Company’s team of nutritionists have plenty of fresh ideas for meals and snacks for families this fall.

The team invites you to grab your aprons and join them for free live lessons via Zoom for chefs of all ages in September and October.

National Family Meal Month ™

September is National Family Meal Month, created to highlight the importance of sharing meals together. GIANT nutritionists say they’re ready to inspire you with simple, affordable recipes in the kitchen, so you can spend more time around the table.

In honor of this celebration, The GIANT Company is offering three pantry makeover experiences valued at up to $ 150 each. By attending free virtual nutrition classes throughout the month of September, each class entry counts toward one raffle entry, and your family will be entered into the contest.






GIANT has shared all the details and official rules online.

The National Family Meal Month course program includes:

  • Quiet lunches on Mondays at 12 noon
  • Family meals at 5 p.m. every Tuesday at 5 p.m.
  • Preparation of the lunch box on Thursdays at 7 p.m.
  • “Kitchen gadgets for good habits” every Thursday at 12 noon

Your lunch boxes will be ready the day before and you will have all the tips to tackle the latest kitchen gadgets.

30 days of action against hunger

GIANT is committed to ending hunger in communities 365 days a year, but especially in September – Action Against Hunger Month, Feeding America® awareness campaign of the national food bank network aimed at mobilizing the public to take action on the issue of hunger.

GIANT Company nutritionists offer training on food insecurity, how to help others, and smart ways to cook meals on a budget.

Orange is the color of hunger. Each week, a delicious and affordable recipe inspired by orange to raise awareness. The Hunger Action virtual course program includes:

  • Sept. 7 at 12 p.m .: Food insecurity
  • Sept. 14 at 12 p.m .: Pay next
  • Sept. 21 at 12 p.m .: Eat healthy on a budget
  • Sept. 28 at noon: $ 6 Meal inspiration

October’s Global Culinary Adventure

Are you ready for a culinary adventure? Japan, Egypt and Brazil are just a few of the destinations that nutritionists at The GIANT Company will explore on a virtual trip around the world in October.

The program is described as a fun food series where you can whip up delicious food and learn about countries around the world.

On Mondays at 10:30 am, mini chefs ages 6 and under will enjoy a story and create nourishing snacks ranging from Japanese-inspired apple cinnamon sushi rolls to Egyptian pizza mummies and Antarctic banana penguins.

Every Wednesday at 4 p.m., junior chefs ages 7 to 18 can try their hand at South African crisp, Chinese vegetable stir-fry, Italian linguine with pesto, or Mexican Day of the Dead mini fruit flan.

Families can also get together in the kitchen with Family Meals at 5 on Tuesday at 5 p.m. and Family Baking on Saturday morning at 10 a.m., both featuring easy-to-make recipes inspired by countries around the world.

Another option: Take your lunch break with the nutritionists at The GIANT Company as they whip up quick and easy recipes to make your Monday lunchtime meal a little more exciting. In October, try the French croque madame, Korean beef tacos, or Vietnamese spring rolls with peanut sauce.

Also in October, discover a little Germany in the Oktoberfest virtual series from nutritionists. From beer pairings to traditional German recipes, celebrate the iconic autumn festival throughout the month:

  • Oct. 7 at 7 p.m .: Intro to beer and food pairings
  • Oct. 14 at 7 p.m .: Red cabbage bratwurst
  • Oct. 21 at 7 p.m .: Quick apple strudel puff pastry
  • Oct. 28 at 7 p.m .: Oktoberfest German beer cheese spread

All courses are free, but prior registration is required for each course.
