Veterans and active-duty servicemen march in silk to prevent suicide

Through November 5, 2021 4:59 PM

CLARKSVILLE, TN – On November 13, veterans and active duty military personnel will take to the streets of Clarksville for the annual Irreverent Warriors Silkies hike.

During the 2021 season, over 60 events will bring together thousands of veterans across the United States. Veteran and Military participants travel 8-14 miles, some carrying heavy bags, others in wheelchairs, but all in a spirit of support and camaraderie with a singular mission, to eliminate veteran suicide. Veterans walk normally wearing nothing but their combat boots and silky, traditional military fitness training shorts full of nostalgia that help promote an environment of humor and camaraderie.

Irreverent warriors is a non-profit organization whose mission is to bring veterans together using humor and camaraderie to heal the mental wounds of war through therapeutic events and entertainment to reduce PTSD and prevent suicide of veterans.

Warriors of all branches and ranks – veteran, active duty, reservist and National Guard – are invited to join us for the hike, which will begin at The Electric Cowboy parking lot, Two Rivers Center, 690 N Riverside Drive.

Registration is available online through Eventbrite, or can be completed on the day of the event from 8 a.m. The hike will start at 9 a.m.

The hike will stop at several locations throughout the day for food, drink, and camaraderie, including Kings Bluff Brewery and The Train Depot for lunch with Mission BBQ.
